My name is Giulio Battistetti owner and jewellery designer of Dragonfly Handicraft, I am Italian, so excuse me if sometimes I make writing mistakes.
I have always wondered to have a my business, the major problem was finding something with not expensive to run and in harmony with my skills. I tried different jobs and in the final I chosen hand-made jewellery.
I started this project in June 2023 with handmade earrings. I work the jewels from 999/1000 silver bar for different good motives: first, I am sure the product is made in silver; second, for a question of price; made jewels from silver bar has a cost of the material cheaper than buy silver sheets or silver wire. My target is earning the minimum wage hourly; every jewel is handmade and this implicate hours of work for made every item. With a cost of the material cheaper I can sell the jewels for right price even if there are hours of work to make it; the third motives is important for the final price too, the silver needs to be stamp if exceed 7.78 grams of weight. This has a big impact on the final price because for stamping the item must send the it in London (the most near stamping point from Ipswich) you have to pay the postage for send to and the return back, plus the cost of the stamp. With 7.78 grams I have enough material for making different items.
New products are already made but before put them in sell I try personally them; I have to be sure that the jewels are not just nice but resilient too.
I really hope you could enjoy my work, the best rewards I can have is a satisfied customer.
From 7/11/2023 Dragonfly Handicraft is a register brand, I really believe in this project.
In data 17/1/2024 I made the first compound in silver Britannia; I melted the silver with 4.5% of copper instead the 8% (mixed of copper and zinc) in the silver sterling. I tried this compound and it works very well. So if the jewel needs to be stronger I used silver Britannia. A little curiosity: Silver Britannia was used to Royal Mint for made the silver coins before than 2013.
There are some photos of my workshop, in order: a silver bar already cut for making jewellery; the thermal treatments zone for melting the metal and the rolling mill for making sheets and wires; the assembly and office zone and a photo of mine with my dog.
